2020: Senator Douglas J.J. Peters

Senator Douglas J.J. Peters is a lifelong resident of Maryland, a decorated military combat veteran, and a successful small business owner in Prince George’s County, representing District 23 in the Maryland State Senate. Upon his entry into the State Senate in 2007, he was appointed to the prestigious Senate Budget and Tax Committee and is now one of its most senior members. He served for six years as Prince George’s County Delegation Chair and three years as the Senate Majority Leader. Currently, Senator Peters Chairs the Capital Budget Subcommittee of the Budget and Taxation Committee and as Senate Chair of the Veterans Caucus. During his tenure as an elected official, Senator Peters has served with distinction on the municipal, county, and state levels. Senator Peters is a proud Terp (‘85) and Terp parent, so his dedication to the University of Maryland has only grown over the years. He has demonstrated many years of outstanding public service to higher education and to the University of Maryland.
