About
Doug Oard is the interim dean of the College of Information since July 1, 2025, and the college’s longest serving member.
Since joining the faculty in 1996, he has served as associate dean for research and associate dean for faculty, and he has led two of the college’s six academic programs. With a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and a joint appointment in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies, Oard has repeatedly brought together large national and international research teams to accelerate the development of multilingual information management techniques.
His 25-year career in the Navy and Navy Reserve included two command tours and other senior leadership roles in the Office of Naval Research Science and Technology Reserve Program.
